Last Blog of the YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The topic i liked best was the one where i got to tell you what movie i liked best. The topic that i didn't like was the music one for Great Gatsby because i do not like looking at old movies and relating things to one another. I did not put a lot of effort into my blogs and i didn't really learn to much from the blogs that i had to do. The thing I did learn from it was that i learned how to use the internet as a writing source.

Play List

"Ol' Man River" - Oscar Hammerstein II.  This song shows the end of the book. In the song it shows the hard times that people faced and the sadness at the end of the book. At the end of the book it is sad because every one is that most people like are killed.

"I Ain't Misbehavin'" - Fats Waller. This song can relate to when Gatsby sees daisy. In the song it states that an individual should only be in love with one person.Daisy is already married and can't share love with him.

Blue Skies" - Irving Berlin. In this song it can show the way that Gatsby lived. In many aspects of life birds are considered to be sign of happiness so in the book Gatsby throws parties all the time and has fun with that.

Miss.Wolff

The advice I would give Miss. Wolff would be to explain more things in terms of what the students would understand. I would also tell her to talk more notes on the board. Meaning that they would be notes to the notes would be in dephth notes so when the students go back and look at their notes for the test they know what they are actually studying about. One last thing I would tell her is not to have students read the books over breaks because many of the students do not actually read them. Along with reading the books, there are many that are hard to understand so i would adivise her to do reading assignmetns by chapters so they can be discussed in class and studnets will have a better understanding of the books.

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first."

I chose this quote becasue it has a lot of meaning to it. This quote means to me that I can't go around asking people to give me things that I want. I have to go out and get it myself. Also the people around us owe us nothing just like it said because we don't give them success so why should poeple help us. We need to go out and recieve success by ourselves. I like this poem becasue it shows that we have to work hard and cant expect things from other people around us.

What I Like

My favoirte movie is "Love and Basketball". It came out many years ago but became my favoirte movie from the very first time I saw it. I like this movie a lot because it reminds me of myself playing basketball. Also it would be nice to have a boyfriend who also played basketball and was a huge star. Another reason I like it is because a lot of the dreams she has i can relate to. She was a star at her highschool and then went to a big college as USC then played over seas. Those things are two dreams that i have of my own. I can also relate to the movie because the girl always has a basketball in her hand and i always do too!!!

Riot In Detroit

During the civil rights movement many riots broke out between the white and black community. There was one major one in Detroit Michigan. During the time, the economy was booming. Due to this new things were being built in the city and many black neighborhoods and communities were being taken away. Also all the jobs were going to the white people of the community. The african americans were not getting fair treatment. Crowds gathered and and became hostile. Troops and police had to be brought in to calm things down. Many damage was done. People were killed, and there were over 50 million dollars in damage. President Johnson said that he would work on equal rights but did not stay true to what he said.

Harlem Rennisance

Zora Zeale Hurston did field research on her own people who were African Americans in the Harlem society. Then after she did research in Harlem she moved to areas down south to do more research. Due to the research she had found she was able to tell many stories and write novels. Many of the stories were about the culture and folk traditions. She started out witting short stories then later wrote novels. She became known as one of the greatest witters of the 20th century.

Claude McKay was regarded as one of the first signifigant writters of Harlme Renisance. He wrote many popular books about the times of Harlem Renisance.  His book "Home to Harlem" was one of the first books by a harlem writter to reach the best selling list.

Slavery Painting

In this painting there are many things that are displayed about the life of a slave that had to work for white owners. There are a few different things that can be depicted about this paintings. Some things can show the good side of white owners or some things could show the bad side. To me this pictures shows the continious jobs the white owner keeps giving the black man. From the picture you can tell that the jobs are not easy and he is stuggleing with them from over agaustion. This painting also shows the differnce in clothes that the owners wear and the slaves where. The owners have nice clothes while the slave get dirty clothes. On a good note though some people could also say this painting shows the good side a slave owner might have. It can show the good side because you can look at it and say that maybe the owener is helping the slave with the jobs that need to be done and giving him company. Also it shows the wife helping out as well.

Having My Say

Many people have a different opion about different race couples. There are some people taht think that you should be with your own race and there are others who think that race should not matter. I am one of those people who think that race should not matter between a couple. If the person you like is black or white then it should make no different. We were both created by God. Many people say that cultures are different between different races which is sometimes but you can always be willing to blend those cultures and become more diverse. I think that if someone likes someone of the different race there should be no judgemet from anyone. The couple obviously drew a connection between the two of them. So there should be no reason to break off a relationship just because someone tells you that you can't date someone from the oppisite race.

Whitman Connection

This poem can connect to me in may ways. Every day I live a new day and everyting that happens become a part of me. Lots of differnt memories are engraved in my  head. From the good to bad memories they all make me who I am today. When I live from day to day, there are a lot of things I can and can not control and all those things that happen, I learn from. Day to day, month to month, and year to year new things in my life occur. Some of those things I can not control but from them i grow as a person.

Nature Poem Emily D

The grass so little has to do, --
A sphere of simple green,
With only butterflies to brood,
And bees to entertain,

And stir all day to pretty tunes
The breezes fetch along,
And hold the sunshine in its lap
And bow to everything;

And thread the dews all night, like pearls,
And make itself so fine, --
A duchess were too common
For such a noticing.

And even when it dies, to pass
In odors so divine,
As lowly spices gone to sleep,
Or amulets of pine.

And then to dwell in sovereign barns,
And dream the days away, --
The grass so little has to do,
I wish I were the hay!

I think that this poem is trying to say that something so simple can have a huge purpose and meaning in life. Something that seems so simple in life to us may have a even larger purpose in life to someone else. Grass may seem so little to us but to others it is much larger. It is much larger to the bees, animals, and the entire world!!

Connection To Nature

I have never really had a complete connection with nature but nature does have a calming effect on me. When ever i am around nature and the outdoors I tend to find myself to be more calm. Every summer i go to minnesota and we stay in a cabin about 20 yards away from the lake. I find myself a lot of times just sitting outside of the cabin and staring out at the lake and all the trees around it. It seems like all my worries and problems just go away. Also me and my cousin sometimes go on night rides on the lake and we just sit on the boat in the middle of the lake. I find this really relaxing because the weather is always beautiful, and you can hear all the little noises and can see the beautiful stars! Also on this vacation i do a lot of fishing and fishing also makes me relax because i don't worry about anything else when im on the waterand catching fish with my grandpa.

Team Edgar

I choose team Edgar. I choose this team becasue I enjoyed his stories more than nathaniel hawthornes stories. Edgar Allen Poe always kept me thinking in his stories. I was always wondering what was going to happen next. Also I enjoyed his writtings because the endings to many of his stories made you look back at the whole picture of the book, and not just the main details. I also choose team Edgar because I think that there was a deeper meaning in all of his books.

Affirmations of Life

Something good that is happening today is racism is continuing to decrease. In society African Americans are becoming more excepted and are not pointed out for everything they do. They are also gaining more opportunies that they did not have years ago. This is a good thing because our country is coming closer together. This also makes our country stronger and have less conflicts within the United States. This also creates equality amongst the people. Every day and every year racism continues to decrease and this will only get better in the future.
